2024 Annual Review

There is what we think we perceive and there is what’s true. The reality behind this photo is that I had a broken toe and could not walk properly and it was taken the day before my dog was attacked which turned my world upside down for a while. Having said that, it was one of the most beautiful sunset of the year.

Year Cycle: 1

My word of the year was:

  • ÉMERGENCE

The way it was expressed was mainly through:

  • Appearing (to others and to oneself)

  • Revelations / coming out of illusions / lifting of veils and curtains

  • No masks, no place to hide, for anyone

  • Becoming aware, be willing to see what's emerging and surfacing

  • Structuring well and solid foundations so that things can emerge

1. What went well this year?

  • Five years being married, four years as a dog mum

  • Visited new places in Portugal including Nazaré, Geres, Algarve, Douro Valley.

  • Visited Tuscany in Italy and went three times to France.

  • House improvements continued throughout the year.

  • My husband played some concerts in Portugal and Germany and did the Camino of Santiago with some friends.

  • In general having a richer social life with new friends.

  • Lots of writing: 15 Substack articles published this year in French and in English, article for Foyht published in December and writing one a month from January onward.

  • Wrote, recorded and published an online course / workshop in English and French about transitioning into the new year / new cycle.

  • Wrote and recorded two meditations in French in the recording studio of a friend: one is to unwind at the end of the day, the other to be free from others' control (emprise). .

  • New support system from a health, psychological and spiritual perspective.

  • Met new people, made new friendships and deepened existing friendships.

  • Lots of studying: namely Evy Poumpouras Beyond BulletProof course, Untapped programs, weekend with Dr. Linda, an online retreat with Rupert Spira, enrolled in a logotherapy diploma course, lots of reading and podcast listening.

  • Efforts made to step out in the world a bit more professionally and personally.

  • Lots of energetic clearing: Sold some books on Vinted (late to that one but turned out to be really good), donated clothes, energetic clearing in my home, hired a géobiologue to do an energetic assessment and clearing of my house (highly recommended).

  • Learned new skills: dog training, finance training.

  • Tricky things got solved.

  • Closed some chapters: Australia namely and also some relationships.

  • Key actions for work taken: wrote client charter agreement, did some market research interviews, ran my first workshop in France, migrated my website to a new domain mahelea.com, created a newsletter in French and English and sent to everyone I knew.

  • Ramped up selfcare and healthcare.

  • Spoke up more - still a ways to go.

  • My grandpa is still with us at 102 years old and drinking champagne. He had a wobble in September when we thought that was it. I spoke to him on the phone then, thinking this was the last time. Turns out, we drank champagne together at Christmas. He was incredible. His nickname is “Enrico the Phoenix”.

2. What didn’t go so well this year?

  • House renovations stress. We went through a lot.

  • My dog was attacked in the street, while we were taking him for a walk, by a pitbull which escaped his home. Huge stress, a month and half of care and treatment and antibiotics before he was okay. Many visits to the vet throughout the year.

  • A few relationships ended this year on a wide spectrum. Even when it’s right and necessary, this is never an easy process.

  • Some struggles health wise which forced me to stop exercising for more than 5 months.

  • Energetically, this was a tough year and I struggled to expand at times.

  • My efforts to network in person more and create new professional opportunities didn’t lead to as much as I hoped for - for now.

  • Too much time scrolling on Instagram

  • Though I felt good about the client sessions I had, my writing, and the course I created, the level of visibility and engagement is still overall much lower than what I hoped for.

3. What did I learn this year?

  • Importance to speak up and be assertive - in real time, not after the fact. Things simply don’t go well when I don’t.

  • Be okay with disagreeableness. It’s part of assertiveness.

  • Fight against conformity.

  • Protect and defend critical thinking and critical self-reflection at all costs.

  • The theme of revelation and the end of illusions continued to be a through line this year again. Not just for me personally, I have seen it with pretty much every single person I know. The nuance of this year is that what was revealed was usually there already (not new), just I(we) had not seen it or wanted to see it.

  • It's not just the way of being that matters, it's also the way of doing things. Basically, be congruent and walk the talk and ask the same of the people around you.

  • Do not let anyone control, influence or manipulate your space of freedom. Take care of this space. Remain independent, sovereign, free.

  • If you want to change the culture, in business or in society, the leadership needs to embrace it and lead by example - look at who our leaders are, what they do, say, support and then look at the state of society, of the country, of the culture… It’s all there right under our noses.

  • Beware of spiritual opportunism, spiritual ego and spiritual tourism. Beware of those people who make heaven speak, always in a direction that suits them and serves their posture, behaviours and excuses.

  • Be concerned in your humanity, and not necessarily because you are directly concerned.

  • Say no as often as necessary.

  • The importance of a solid support system and sets of processes to deal with situations when they arise. Also the importance to review that support system and make the necessary changes as things evolve.

  • Spiritual autonomy - without intermediaries - and choosing the right guides along the way. Understanding that this often changes over time. This was a deepened learning from last year.

  • It is imperative to detach ourselves and distance ourselves from the external gaze that others place on us and from their inevitable judgement and projection.

  • Uplevel. Teach at the highest common factor, not at the lowest common denominator. You don’t leave anyone behind, you do you and those who want to engage can.

  • Available, accessible but not at your disposal nor enslaved.

  • When meaning is missing, when there is no meaning, everything becomes very complicated.

  • For me, perception first, structure second, behaviour third. In this order (for me).

  • Structure is important. It may not be the primary focus for everyone, nor should it be. But the absence of structure or its denial is a disservice to everyone involved.

  • Whatever you do, don’t be in energy neutral mode. The virtue of neutrality is absolute BS.

  • Do everything I can to get out of fawn and freeze mode.

  • People's openness and generosity are two virtues that matter way more than what they know, what they say, what they portray and convey. When these qualities are absent, the relationship isn’t worth it.

  • Don’t be afraid to commit, to throw yourself all in, to be accountable and reliable. But know when it’s the end and when to pull out, even if it’s difficult. Just do it correctly.

  • They are rites of passage. Learn to recognise them and go with it. Avoiding and escaping isn’t a viable option.

  • Invite and embrace imperfection. It’s a tough one.

  • Being spiritual and listening to your soul doesn’t mean you should forget your humanity and the reality of being an incarnated human in an incarnated world among other incarnated souls. In other words, serving the soul while dismissing the vehicle that embodies the soul is utterly pointless. Our entirety needs to be taken into account, not just one part.

4. What are my biggest opportunities for growth?

  • More boundaries.

  • Stop comparing myself, stop judging myself (same as last year).

  • Step out in the world, talk about what I do, let myself be visible and seen (same as last year).

  • Have faith in myself and my talents.

  • Recover my energy and be in my own movement, my own impulse.

  • The teachings of Marie Madeleine who accompanies us through the passages of life. One of her messages is: take your place, deploy yourself.

  • More self respect. Being respectful of what I give too.

  • Bitch, bold, fiery, fierce, ferocious. So be it.

  • Being an external +++

  • Embrace my configuration: structure keystone.

  • Continue to improve my Portuguese and pass the A2 exam.
