2023 Annual Review

Year Cycle: 9

My words of the year were:

  • Liberation

  • Légitimité (Legitimacy)

1. What went well this year?

  • There is so much to be grateful for and these days, this is a blessing.

  • Four years being married, three years as a dog mum.

  • Two astrology weekends.

  • Met new people.

  • Formed new friendships.

  • Three trips to France. Quality time with my family.

  • Visited Lisbon and Seville.

  • Life in Portugal is even better than anticipated.

  • Started to practise Krav Maga and trained regularly for 9 months.

  • Wrote and published 8 articles on Substack.

  • My relationship with my parents has improved noticeably in the last year.

  • Read more - list to follow.

  • A lot of renovations were done in the house.

  • Have let my hair grow again and kept my natural colour.

  • Styling consultations.

  • Bean Protocol from Karen Hurd which stopped my allergies.

  • Friends and family came to visit in Porto.

  • My dog’s vet is awesome.

  • Regular Portuguese lessons.

  • Having a cleaning lady once a week is fabulous.

  • Found a great hairdresser and a good accountant.

  • Did my will, for the first time ever.

  • My husband played several concerts.

  • Client’s sessions went well, the feedback I received has been excellent. Étude de cas en français.

  • My spirituality transformed and my approach to it changed too

2. What didn’t go so well this year?

  • My dog has a chronic bowel condition and had to go under due to the inflammation in his intestines. Lots of trips to the vet, lots of vet bills. A few months later, he had gastro and a flare up of the inflammation and spent three nights in hospital.

  • Suffered from allergies for seven months non-stop and needed antihistamines daily until I started the Bean Protocol which I mentioned above and which turned out to be a life saver.

  • Had Covid and lost my sense of smell for a few weeks and managed to get food poisoning just before Christmas.

  • Had a few surprises during the renovation work that were stress inducing and my anxiety spiked.

  • Had a fallout with a dear friend for a few months.

  • Had sessions with a new healer for a few months who turned out to be uncaring and despicable.

  • My husband’s daughter stayed with us for a bit and it was a disaster, her behaviour was appalling.

  • Found every excuse in the world to stay hidden and not promote my business the way I should have, aside from printing business cards, mostly because a friend designed them.

3. What did I learn this year?

  • Portuguese - I have improved a lot.

  • Krav Maga.

  • To pay attention to the red flags as soon as they appear, don’t ignore them and don’t wait to act.

  • To play Skyjo (card game).

  • Ma Croix de la Lune noire en astrologie.

  • Transcendance is a choice, it doesn’t mean we don’t have jelly legs.

  • Dived further into the topic of “emprise”, especially as it is a recurring theme with my clients.

  • Also dived into the issues of violence against women, especially in France. It’s a bottomless pit and one that needs voices and fighters to help, support and protect.

  • The silence and the excuses made after the massacres of the 7th of October in Israel, the worldwide exhibitions and proclamations of antisemitism, the apology of violence against other human beings taught me more about the reality of our world in 3 months than anything I witnessed before.

  • The UN is a joke and should be dismantled.

  • Most people don’t ask the right questions.

  • Accurate perception, discernment, critical thinking remain more important than ever.

  • To be clear regarding who I have bandwidth for, or not.

  • In this era, and for the last few years, there is no place to hide, people are being exposed, the truth is being revealed everywhere. The question is: are we paying attention and are we holding people accountable the way we should?

  • This Christmas, I was reminded that kind and good people can experience awful family situations, especially with their kids. I personally know of four and it baffles me that they all invested so much into selflessly raising their children to then later in life being treated so disrespectfully by them. We often joke at home that “family is overrated” and I believe that it’s not because people are technically “family” that we have to put up with them. On my own side, there is a great portion that I haven’t seen for 20 years and I am totally fine with that.

  • JK Rowling, in the excellent audio documentary “The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling” said: “I believe in what people are doing, not what they’re saying”. I agree.

  • To always remind myself that people value who and what they spend their time, money and energy on/with. Simple as that.

  • Spiritually and otherwise, we don’t need intermediaries. Intermediary systems in society are some of the worst where there is no responsibility and no accountability.

  • “Do not enter the drama theatre. This doesn’t mean not to participate with life but simply don’t entertain the drama”. I wrote about this and I made sure to live by it. I mostly did.

  • We may not feel it or assert it but we have agency. We need to keep moving and use it. This doesn’t mean we leave anyone behind, they have agency too.

  • I am happy to host friends, to make them feel at home, however I am not a hotel, nor a tour guide, nor a travel agent or an Uber driver.

4. What are my biggest opportunities for growth?

  • Stop comparing myself (or judging in this context) - it slams the door on myself, it creates barriers, it holds me back, it keeps me small, it sends the wrong message.

  • Value my time more so that I give it for free less.

  • It’s not just aligned actions that are needed, it’s actions done correctly, properly.

  • Step out in the world, talk about what I do, let myself be visible and seen.

  • Be more careful and picky about what I exposed myself to (book, podcast, content). Move on faster when they’re not worth my time.

  • Less scrolling on Instagram.

  • Continue to improve my Portuguese and pass the B2 exam.
